Putting Our Best Foot Forward

Monday, August 29, 2011

I’ve long said that September is my favorite time of year. It’s when we can shake off the summer — and all that is rolled up into that sweaty, hot, hurricane-y time — and start fresh, focused on what’s next.

It’s like stepping into a pair of new shoes. Yes, at first it might feel a tad tight, even strange, but you settle in quickly and then … someone might just have to pay you to take those shoes off.

This is the second summer that was consumed by a big family move (BK —> NJ in 2010, and then NJ –> CT just 11 months later) so to say that I’m looking forward to September is not saying enough. I’m practically standing at the bottom of our driveway, on the tips of my toes trying to see if Fall is coming up that steep hill. Come on, buddy. You’re so close.

So, yeah, I need me some September.

Not only does September mean the return of regular Ms. Mary Mack posts, but the month also brings another wedding anniversary to celebrate with the love of my life (plus his birthday). And it’s the start of an exciting new chapter for The Youngster: he heads to preschool. As in he starts school in three days.

Although I haven’t quite gotten my head around how quickly le bébé became a full-blown kiddo (l’enfant?), I am beaming about his big transition. Surprisingly, I don’t have any sad feelings about the school thing. This next phase will be a learning experience for the whole fam, I’m sure. At least we’re moving in the right direction: forward.

Be sure to check back this week for another installment of The Confab. That’s right, friends … Ms. Mary Mack is back!
