Moving On Up … To the Big Boy Bed

Thursday, August 29, 2013

The fact that I had the day starred off in my calendar or that I had washed and folded the sheets since last week might indicate who was most excited about The Youngster’s new Big Boy bed delivery.

But that was before the kid got home from summer day camp.

“To the bed!” he yelled, when we got in. After kicking off his shoes, he bolted upstairs to his room singing “newbednewbednewbed” all the way along. And then his face … awww. It was a sweet, sweet moment, watching him smile and giggle about growing up.

He immediately wanted to put on his jammies and pretend that it was nighttime already. Then he piled all of this stuffed animals around him and shimmied his way between his new sheets, still smiling, still tickled by it all.

“Who’s going to sleep in that?” he said, pointing to his toddler bed that was pushed towards the closet.

“No one,” I said. “That’s for little ones, and there are no little ones here.”

“Well, if a baby stops by to visit, we can let him relax in there.”

Speaking of sleep, many of you are getting ready for back-to-school or first-time-to-school, and moving from summer slumber loosey-goosey-ness back to bed times and more rigid schedules might be a small challenge right about now. Here’s something I wrote for PBS Parents¬†on How to Improve Your Toddler’s Sleep Habits¬†that might offer some helpful tips.

This long weekend, we’re going to enjoy the last days of summer (and celebrate our wedding anniversary), so it’ll be quiet on the blog until next week. No new vlog, sadly, but I’ll be back with more chatter right after Labor Day. In the meantime, be sure to leave a comment on what you enjoy most about September to enter MMM’s Back-to-School giveaway. Until soon, take good care, friends.
